1 ham hock
500g dried split yellow peas
1/2t black pepper
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 bay leaves
1 onion, finely chopped
1 carrot, peeled and finely chopped
2 celery sticks, finely chopped
Add the split peas to the slow cooker and place ham in the centre. Add the remaining ingredients before pouring in the water.
Turn your slow cooker onto low and leave to cook for 8 hours.
Remove the ham and discard the skin and bones. Shred the meat.
Remove the bay leaves and blitz the soup several times with a stick blender umtil you have your desired consistency. Return the ham to the cooker and stir through. Add salt if it needs any.
