4 burger buns of choice
1 sliced onion
200g sliced cheddar cheese
½ bag of fresh spinach leaves (or lettuce greens of choice)
2 tomatoes sliced
1 small tin of beetroot sliced
¼ cup mayonnaise
2-3 Tbsps. American mustard
2-3 Tbsps. tomato ketchup
½ cup sliced gherkins
2 Tbsp. olive oil
Salt/pepper
Caramelise the onions
Heat a pan over medium heat and add half of the oil.
Add the sliced onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft, golden, and caramelised.Cook the beef patties
While the onions are cooking, heat a second pan over medium–high heat and add the remaining oil.
Once hot, add the beef patties and cook for 10–15 minutes, turning as needed, until nicely golden and cooked through.Melt the cheese
When the patties are almost done, place a slice of cheddar on each one.
Turn off the heat, cover the pan with a lid, and let the cheese melt.Prepare the buns
Cut the buns open.
Spread mustard and tomato ketchup on the bottom half, and mayonnaise on the top half.Assemble the burgers
Place the cheesy beef patty onto the bun base.
Top with caramelised onions, followed by your other salad ingredients.
Season the tomato layer with a little extra salt and pepper.Finish and serve
Close the bun and get ready to commit — these burgers are PHAT.
Serve with oven-baked chips if you like, but fair warning: you may not need them. One of these bad boys is a meal on its own.
